Archiving film material

Archiving film material

All films approved for release, plus a selection of the best sequences from the raw footage, are saved as medium-resolution files online in the image database. There they can be viewed and, if required, downloaded. In addition, the original data is archived in high resolution on the service provider’s hard drive. MTU will receive a copy of this hard drive at least once a year.

When archiving film material, please observe the following:

High resolution for raw footage:
  • Please submit:

    • Finished film
    • Selection of the best sequences
  • Technical specifications:

    • 1:1 format from raw camera footage – production codec (e.g. Apple Pro Res HQ 422, etc.)
  • Storage location:

    • 1x on hard drive of service provider
    • 1x on MTU mirrored hard drive
Medium resolution for media pool:

Original data

The original data is required in 1:1 format from the raw camera footage for archiving purposes and reuse in the future. For this reason, the unedited—but selected and compressed—original data should be used. The data must be saved on the hard drive in an uncompressed format. MTU will receive a copy of the hard drive at least once a year.

Finished film

MTU’s corporate films are not only used for small presentations on the computer, but they are also played at events, predominantly on state-of-the-art flat screens. For this reason, the finished film is saved in the highest possible quality. The data must be saved on the hard drive in an uncompressed format. MTU will receive a copy of the hard drive at least once a year.

Media pool

An MP4 version (MP4, full HD, 10 mbit/s, AAC 320 kbit/s, stereo, 48 kHz) of the selected and compressed original data and the finished film is uploaded to the media pool. This serves as a preview file. If required, the original file can be requested from the service provider.
