The MTU Aero Engines logo is a graphically rendered word-picture of our brand. It is an essential component of the corporate design and visualizes the corporate identity.
The logo consists of three elements:
The unmistakable design element is based on a rotating fan, suggesting the nature and dynamics of our company.
The italics of the word mark represent a company that is steeped in tradition. In the aviation industry, the three letters MTU stand for safe and reliable advanced engine technology and innovations of the highest caliber.
The business descriptor: Aero Engines, MTU Power or Maintenance, which clearly designates the intended business unit.
Room to fly
In order to make a clear and lasting impression, the MTU logo requires clearance space.
The necessary minimum “clearance” varies depending on the size of the MTU logo but it always corresponds to the height of the letter “M” in MTU.
Logo placement
The MTU logo is always placed in the area of the lower or upper left corner. It is surrounded by “room to fly” (indicated here by the dotted line). This space should always be free of other elements such as page numbers, text, images, etc. In addition to the clearance space, which may not be filled, special rules also apply to what is known as the “restricted space.” This is the horizontal plane in which the MTU logo has been placed (indicated here by the dashed line). No other logos are allowed in the “restricted space.” You can find supplementary information on this below.
If the design element needs to be smaller than 15 mm for certain small-format media (e.g. advertising articles), the logo height can be reduced to 10 mm.
Use of color
We would like to limit reproduction possibilities of the MTU logo in color, especially against different backgrounds. Our aim is to maintain the high level of recognition that these limitations ensure. Using too many colors would diminish our brand recognition.
There are different possibilities for how a logo can be presented in the matrix and four basic color configurations that can be used on different backgrounds.
Special printing processes and advertising applications, such as embossing, gravure and etching can also be used.
1. Logo with two special/process colors
The preferred version of the MTU logo is the two-color variant with the MTU dark blue and MTU blue gray on a white/neutral background or MTU dark blue and white on a background in MTU blue gray/metallic gray or a similar mid-tone background.
Logo in process colors (CMYK):
The design element/word mark is printed in a process color matching MTU dark blue; the business descriptor is printed in a process color matching MTU blue gray.

2. Logo in a special color (spot color):
The design element/word mark is printed in MTU dark blue; the business descriptor is printed in 40% MTU dark blue.
two-color variant with one special color
3. Grayscale version
If only single-color printing is possible, the MTU logo can appear in black and grayscale on a white/neutral background.
The design element/word mark is printed in 100% black; the business descriptor is printed in 50% black.
grayscale version
4. Black line version
The design element/word mark and the business descriptor are single-color. The MTU logo can thus be used in black on a white/neutral background or in white on a dark background in MTU dark blue/metallic gray or a similar mid-tone background.
This variant also serves as a template for engraving, embossing, contour cutting or monochrome object printing.

5. Color logo on mid-tone
The logo is printed on a background in MTU blue gray/metallic gray or on a comparable mid-tone background.
Logo in special color:
The design element/word mark is printed in MTU dark blue; the business descriptor is printed in white.
Logo in process color:
The design element/word mark is printed in a process color matching MTU dark blue; the business descriptor is printed in white.

6. Black logo on mid-tone
The design element/word mark is printed in 100% black; the business descriptor is printed in white on a grayscale background or on a comparable mid-tone background.
To ensure the success of MTU’s identity, all publications must be uniform in appearance in accordance with our high standards.
In this section we show examples of incorrect use of our logo. Please ensure that these remain the only examples.
The MTU logo may not be changed or modified. This guarantees that the logo consistently conveys the desired impression of reliability. Always reproduce the original artwork.
Ensure that the elements of the logo are used in the correct size and with the specified spatial relationship.
The logo should always be reproduced in a legible size, i. e. not below minimum size.
Ensure that the logo is reproduced from approved original master drawings that have not been modified or distorted.

Position of other logos in relation to the MTU logo
If other logos, such as an internal campaign logo* or partner and product logos, are to be used in addition to the MTU logo, these must never be placed to the right or left of it, i.e. at the same height. This horizontal level is described in the following as the “restricted space.” You can find more details on this under “Logo placement.”
*As a rule, it is not permitted to use or create a (center- or topic-specific) logo.
In exceptional cases, custom solutions can be found subject to consultation and coordination with Corporate Communications (excerpt from the MTU Corporate Design Guidelines).
Example using a PowerPoint title slide
In the positive example, the additional campaign logo is subordinate to the MTU company logo. It does not compete with it and plays on a different level.
The slide is a negative example of how to place an additional campaign logo.
It was inserted to the right of the MTU logo so that the logos are in competition from a design perspective.
The dashed area indicates the “restricted space” where no other logo may be placed.
Special case campaign logo placement
When placing campaign logos, there are a few special cases that differ from the basic rules in the diagram. These placements may be used in individual cases in coordination with MTU Marketing Communications.
