Brochures

Brochures and leaflets are important media for presenting our products to the outside world. Brochures provide a positive image to our customers, suppliers, employees, the press or authorities. By using uniform design elements in all media, we strengthen our corporate identity and enhance brand recognition. The brochure’s design must be appropriate for the topic, draw the attention of the target group and highlight MTU’s products and message.

In this chapter, we present the most important design elements that you can use for the layout of your brochure or leaflet with some flexibility. Always maintain the highest standards of quality when creating such media.

The brochures of MTU Aero Engines are classified according to the following groups:

Image brochures

Image brochure represents MTU in its entirety and is created exclusively by AK.

Corporate brochures

Corporate brochures are superordinate brochures that present specific areas (for example, MTU Maintenance master brochure, Technology brochure). They are created exclusively by AK.

Subsidiary business brochures

Subsidiary business brochures present the individual subsidiary businesses of MTU Aero Engines, and are created by subsidiaries in coordination with AK.

Product brochures

Product brochures present the individual products/services (or product ranges/service ranges), and are created by the responsible centers in coordination with AK.

Product leaflets

Product leaflets present the individual products/services, and are created by the responsible centers in coordination with AK.

Human resources brochures/leaflets

Human resources brochures and leaflets visualize topics relevant to HR and are created by the HR departments in coordination with AK.

All documents have a satin finish. The FOGRA 39L color profile is used.

• The unit of measure is a DTP point, which equals 0.3527 mm, or 0.0138 inches.
• Grid pattern: In general, text and images are aligned on the top line. Images are positioned manually; guides are provided.

Modular type area:

A type area/grid pattern (invisible to the viewer) is provided as a design tool.

For DIN A4, the smallest possible text/picture box is 33 pt x 33 pt. A variety of image formats are possible with the addition of units. (For the square format, this is computed mathematically, i.e., 12 x 12 = 144 image formats.) A square picture format is preferred. However, a different picture format can also be used, if necessary.

For DIN long and US letter, the smallest unit is 34.5 pt x 34.5 pt.

In A5 format, the smallest unit is 10 pt x 10 pt.
A5 format should be used only in exceptional cases if the other formats are not suitable for the planned brochures.

The images used in MTU brochures are content- and product-oriented: Avoid using portraits of people.

The type area for product leaflets is identical to the type area for DIN A4 brochures. Product leaflets require additional adaptation to the 208 x 294 mm format, such as adjusting the edge distances. Examples can be found in the documents available for download.

Image-heavy brochures are brochures that present the company and its values as a whole. They feature intro texts and make increased use of white space and subheads.
The underlying grid is identical to the type area of regular brochures, but text is used only in two columns.

Compared to a regular flyer, the image-heavy flyer contains less body text but has an additional intro text.
