Colors and color schemes

new

The colors are a central design element of MTU’s brand identity. They create visual recognizability, add emotional depth, and at the same time convey the values and attitude of the company. To ensure flexibility and consistency in all applications, the color concept distinguishes between primary colors, secondary colors, and gray tones.

Primary colors

new

MTU’s primary company colors are MTU dark blue, MTU sky blue, and MTU berry. They form the foundation of MTU’s visual appearance and must be used in all media. Generous use of white accentuates them even more.

The color weighting of the MTU primary colors:

  • MTU dark blue stands for precision and technological excellence (engines) and underscores our reputation as a reliable, trustworthy, and market-leading blue-chip company.
  • MTU sky blue symbolizes the brand’s pioneering spirit. In addition, this color—in line with our aviation business segment—underlines the lightness of flight.
  • MTU berry lends energy and passion to the brand image and emphasizes the human side of MTU.

The combination of these three colors creates a professional, contemporary appearance that joins technological expertise with emotional accessibility.

Application notes and colored fill areas

new
  • As a rule, MTU dark blue is used as the dominant fill color.
  • MTU sky blue can provide visual accents and inject modernity, especially in digital media.
  • MTU berry is the preferred choice as an accent color for teaser elements, the key visual, or emotional highlights.

The correct use and combination of colors depends on the medium, the aim of the communication, and the tonality of the message. However, regardless of application, the primary colors always have priority.

The primary color MTU dark blue may be lightened to 48% for accents in headlines.

The primary color MTU berry is used exclusively in 100%.

Secondary colors

new

In addition to the primary colors, a range of secondary colors can also be used in designs. The secondary colors are a clear acknowledgment of MTU’s origins. They are used exclusively to add visual accents and emotion—and their use must be targeted and restrained.

Please note that the old MTU colors MTU cranberry and blue have been omitted from the update due to their similarity to the MTU primary colors. All other secondary colors remain unchanged.

Gray tones

Gray tones are used for the neutral design of fill areas, dividing lines, and background elements. They do not “steal” visual attention and support a functional, structured design. The defined gray tones can be used flexibly in combination with primary and secondary colors to create design balance and clarity.

Accent colors

new

The accent colors have been selected with regard to their compatibility with MTU’s primary colors. Unlike the primary colors and the neutral gray range, the accent colors are used only for highlights. The dominant color is always determined by MTU’s primary colors.

Shading accent colors

new

In the handling of accent colors we offer the additional option of shading in a dark color configuration. When applying, you are free to use the corresponding color mixture, or to apply the color black in an adding (multiplying) manner. The final result must be equivalent. Shading in the dark color configuration provides more room for maneuver and comes into its own especially in illustrations. For example, when showing fonts in the same color configuration, shading can improve contrast, but it also permits further gradations of a diagram’s accent color.

Background and fill colors

new

In addition to the generous use of white, MTU’s primary colors MTU Dark Blue and MTU Sky Blue and the neutral gray series are decisive for our visual appearance. The color MTU Berry must not be used over entire surfaces; it is only used to set accents. The accent colors serve exclusively to set specific accents.
